Pulmonary Medicine Expert Witness

Dr. Penek completed an NIH funded post-doctorial Fellowship in Pulmonary Diseases at the University of California Davis/Irvine. Beginning in January 1980 he accepted the position as Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Bergen Pines County Hospital in Paramus, NJ and Assistant Professor of Medicine at NJ Medical School and Director of the Pulmonary Fellowship Program at that Hospital. In this capacity, he trained other physicians in the field of pulmonary diseases.

Dr Penek continues to have a busy practice in pulmonary and critical care medicine. He has been involved in the care of many thousands of patients with a wide variety of respiratory disorders. He has extensive experience in diagnosis and treatment of a broad spectrum of respiratory disorders. These include asthma, COPD, all forms of lung fibrosis, pneumonia, respiratory failure and ICU ventilator and critical care management.

Since 1985, Dr. Penek has evaluated many cases of legal issues regarding pulmonary topics. This has involved expert work for both plaintiff and defense attorneys. Included are many cases of inhalation injury such as natural gas, carbon monoxide, RADS and other exposures such as asbestos resulting in mesothelioma and lung cancer. He is frequently called upon to comment on standard of care issues from both the plaintiff and defense perspectives. He is comfortable in reviewing and providing opinions on the entire field of pulmonary medicine and has been qualified to testify as a pulmonary expert witness in numerous states throughout the country.
